NEW MOTORWAY CONNECTION TO PUERTO DE MOGAN

Well here we go progress is progress I suppose.!!!

They have started to drill the tunnels out now for the last leg into Puerto De Mogan. On the Puerto De Mogan side of the mountain.

It has been going on so long now all hidden behind the mountains inland away from the resorts, That not many people know about this last leg of the motorway into Puerto de mogan, from the end of where it ended in Tauro, just after Puerto Rico.

People are wondering if this is the start of the spoiling of this little gem on Gran Canaria.?

Yes it will get busier here there is no doubt about that. But the playa and the valley can only expand so far, it is such a small gem of a Place, surrounded by high mountains it can not expand  anyway.

The mountains all around the bay are protected land and as such , no building will be allowed on the top of them anyway. So I really do not see how it can ever be spoilt.

Puerto de Mogan is the dead end of the main road around the island on the coast. The coastal area of land from Puerto de Mogan is protected land all the way to Aldea San Nicolas.

To travel the rest of the coast road around the island from Puerto De Mogan, you have to drive Inland from the playa quite some way, to get to the next coast road from Aldea  San Nicolas about one hour in duration.

This is why Puerto De Mogan bay itself can not expand at all.

The end of the Motorway will come out of the mountains just past the petrol station outside of the bay itself at the start of the valley of mogan ,and will not be seen from the bay itself.

And you might think then that the valley itself will be ruined. No not so, no more building is going to be allowed by the regional government of spain in the valley of mogan. Only very few that already have been passed as building land. And they are very few indeed. And only for residential use at that. The valley has a garden centre in it. And El Cercado is a very small hamlet. A one eyed street of residences just past the local garden centre and situated amongst the fruit fincas of the valley, only 3 kilometres from the beach.

If you are lucky enough to settle here, you then have the best of both worlds. Living in the countryside in the peace and quiet , yet only 3 kilometres from where its all at.

El Cercado has distant views of the sea. When the motorway is completed, El Cercado will be one of the most sort after places on the island to live.To truly live a real life in Paradise.

So near the famous resort of (Little Venice) Puerto de Mogan, but far enough away to relax in the peace and quiet of the countryside all round.Truly living the Canarian lifestyle.

The local Co operative with its fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables. And The El Tanke Restaurant as well, to relax in Canarian Garden Style Restaurant are only a few minutes walk away, at the end of the street of this Unspoilt Little Hamlet.

It really is a pleasure to walk in the dusk to deposit your daily rubbish into the communal hamlet dustbin  that is emptied every night 7 nights per week,Whilst looking at the twinkling lights of the resort of Little Venice in the distance, And serenaded all the way by the sound of the crickets all the way down the country lane. Then to go back and relax on your terrace drinking the Canarian grown, Ansite wine.

Up in the morning to watch the locals living here and  working on there fincas, and a walk down to the co operative to buy, free range corn fed, truly golden yoked fresh eggs for breakfast.

And yet not far from the local supermarket that has everything you could ever need, even fresh just baked bread. And down to the port to buy some of the morning catch of fresh fish.

Ah!! Yes Paradise indeed.

New Motorway For Mogan

The tunnels for the new motorway on the Playa Mogan side of the mountain have started to be done this week.

If you come past the petrol station and just before the garden centre in the valley look to the right and, you will see the digging machines digging out

The side of the mountain for the two tunnels, to connect up to the motorway that has been ongoing in construction on the other side of the mountain for about a year and a half now

Construction of the Playa Mogan motorway tunnels has started

It will come out on a viaduct over the top of the sewage works building.(The white building with the blue painted stripe around it and the black ornate lanterns) i know it looks more like a house than a sewage works building but that is what it actualy is.

That will then cut out the hairy scary mountain road journey. This motorway will connect up in Tauro to the main one all the way to Las Palmas. So you could say you will be in Puerto Rico from Playa Mogan in about 5 minutes in the future.

Playa Mogan will then be more popular as a place to settle down and live in. well the valley in particular amongst the fruit fincas and along in all the little hamlets, all the way up to the village of Mogan

Developments in Mogan

New Building in Mogan

There have been several developments in the Mogan area over the last couple of years. Most work is now finished and the results are excellent. The new Cordial hotel and apartments are now fully open and doing well. The Mogan Plaza shopping center is beginning to attract new businesses and the night club opens soon.

The shopping center is right in front of the hotel reception and is becoming very popular both by day for the shops and by night for the entertainment. The well known local singer Welshman David Searle has free shows here every Mon, Thurs. and Saturday starting at 8 pm.

There have been several new apartments built on the playa and these are selling well even in these difficult times. The Playa area is now more or less completely developed and there is not much scope for further building in this area. Once the new motorway opens the property here will be even more sought after, now is the time to invest here.

There have been some new developments in the Valle de Mogan a new  development

Los Naranjos Mogan

Los Naranjos Mogan

of 8 houses in El Cercado is now complete.

These 3 bedroom houses are good value with prices starting at 250,000 Euros! Including garage and completely fitted kitchens.

Heating of water is by way of solar panels. This is now compulsory on all new developments there being so much sunshine here it would be silly not to make good use of it.

There is communal swimming pool and gardens.

All in a country setting close to the local garden centre and fruit fincas.

Yet so near to the resort of Playa Mogan that you can walk to there in about half an hour, Or  it takes

only about 5 minutes by car

These houses are also available for holiday rentals.

PUERTO DE MOGAN

Puerto De Mogan

Puerto De Mogan

Mogán

is a municipality in the southwestern corner of the island of Gran Canaria, which is one of the three main islands making up the Spanish province of Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. It includes the fishing towns of Puerto de Mogán and Arguineguin. Mogán is the second largest municipality by area on the island. The population is 15,176 its density is 88.17/km² and the area is 172 km². Much of the population lives on the Atlantic coastline. The terrain consists of mountains and a valley area that are mostly covered with vegetation and forests. Barren land dominates the northern, central and eastern parts, especially in the mountain areas, while farmlands and urban areas lie within 2 to 3 km of the Atlantic Ocean and in the narrow steep sided barrancos, or valleys. The town of Mogán is about 12 kilometers from the coast and north-west of Puerto Rico and is accessed by following the coast road after leaving the GC-1 motorway by its southernmost exit, (58th km interchange or exit 58/59). The main industries are tourism, agriculture and fishing. The tourism industry is located mainly along the coast, which has a string of resorts. Mogàn is part of a larger tourist area in the southern part of the island. Puerto de Mogán is a picturesque resort and fishing village in the municipality of Mogán, set at the mouth of a steep-sided valley on the southwest coast of the island of Gran Canaria and attracts many tourists either to stay or on day-visits. Canal-like channels linking the marina to the fishing harbour have led to it being nicknamed “Little Venice” or the “Venice of the Canaries”. Restaurants and bars fringe the marina and the beach front. On a Friday there is a very popular market which brings in tourists from all over the island.

Puerto de Mogán has very few buildings over two storeys high, and the government of Gran Canaria restricts new buildings taller than this.

Puerto de Mogán is linked with the motorway GC1 several kilometers to the east in Puerto Rico by means of a coastal road (GC-500), and is on several bus routes. The mountains almost surround the urban area of the town. Work has now started on the new motorway link to Puerto Rico and on to Las Palmas.

The town is linked to Puerto Rico and Arguineguin by minor ferry routes from its small port, and is also a major stop for ocean going yachts beginning their journey across the Atlantic to the Caribbean. The smaller, mainly single-storey, homes and inaccessible streets are on the northern slopes; the larger inaccessible houses, a forest and a square lie in the northwest; and near the port and more to the northeast. There is a small enclosed beach which has golden sand imported from the Sahara. There are two or three hotels and many holiday apartments available for rent
