Fiesta Del Carmen.

A good time to come to stay in Puerto de Mogan is when the fiesta is on in July.

Fantastic for any age but especially the children.

Dancing all night in the street. Open air Spanish pop groups

Shows in the canarian show area by the bus stop (totally free entry)

Children’s fun fair set up including dodgem cars. All ending in a FANTASTIC FIREWORK DISPLAY OFF THE BEACH AT MIDNIGHT On the last saturday night of the two weeks.

What this festival is all about.

Years ago there was no serviceable road out of Mogan, There was very little opportunity for young men to meet up with young ladies from other areas, in Puerto de Mogan.

So they sent boat loads of young virgin ladies from Arguiniguin into Puerto De Mogan for two weeks, so they could meet up and pair off.

The last week is the best with the fireworks off the beach No expense is spared by the Town hall on putting on this show.

Of course if you do not like the noise at night you could always stay just outside in the Valley and just come down to join in when you want to, but nobody can say that Puerto de mogan is quiet at all at this time.

Please understand that it is a very happy and jolly time.

There is never any trouble No drunks being arrested at all, this is Canarian family time .The canarians are out with all there families, small children babies and everything is respectful and fun. No looky looky men touts or anything like that. Just wholesome family local canarian fun time. There is a religious parade to the boats at the end of it to send the Carmen del virgin back to Arguiniguin on the boat. The locals have competitions for the young girl to be chosen as queen. In fact its just like England in the olden days, The carnivals that used to go on in England . Only a lot better with Professional musicians, Local singers (small children and so on singing) Even special football matches, going on, and in the local canarian show place, (the little door in the wall at the bus station), opens onto an open air show place with stage, Where there is entertainment inside. Fantastic artists and the mayor always attend  the shows in there. Tourists do not always realise they are welcome to just walk in there for free and join in. There is always a canarian whistler who shows how they all used to communicate here, when there were no roads, (they used to have a whistling language to communicate with each other across the mountains).

A Fantastic and fascinating time to visit Mogan

The Calima.

A Calima can happen at any time of year but is usually associated with the hot air found over the islands during the summer months, ranging in time scale from a few hours up to a week. Calima as it is called, is caused by a dust storm that is stirred up by high winds in the Sahara desert in North Africa which is less than 100 kilometers from Las Palmas and is then driven over the Canary Islands by south easterly winds. The fine sand particles cause the air to become thick and visibility becomes rather like that experienced during a thick fog, the severity differs from Calima to Calima but it always makes the Islands very hot. During the calima, every surface will be covered in fine reddish brown dust. Winds blow twenty percent of dust from a Saharan storm out over the Atlantic Ocean, and, the remainder settles out into the ocean. The daytime temperatures here in Mogan have been in the upper Forties Centigrade since Saturday and there seems little sign of change at the moment. A couple of years ago we had temperatures above 50 degrees C. for one day in November!  The weather forecasting is very good here and advance warnings (Alerts) are always given.

Playa Mogan Motorway Latest

>The new motorway link to Playa Mogan is continuing and work is expected to be completed early next year. The new road will make a big difference to the lives of people living and working in Mogan cutting the travelling time to Las Palmas by 15 minuits. It will also cut the airport transfer time for touists coming from Las Palmas airport to Mogan and should also make the cost of the Taxi journeys cheaper. The work has so far been carried out with little disruption to traffic but we are coming to the stage when this might change.Tourists in Gran Canaria coming to Playa Mogan will not be affected by these works at all however.

Sailing Trips in Mogan,Gran Canaria.

CANARY ISLANDS 2011
SAILINGTRIPS.DK now offers the possibility to combine your holiday with a great sailing experience, around the Canary Islands, which with their subtropical climate and sunshine all year round, offers ideal conditions for exploring some of the world’s most breathtaking coastlines – on a unique sailing vessel
The trips are done on our 75’ (23 m) Little Harbor sailing yacht GRAND JUBILEE. An exhilarating, comfortable and safe luxury yacht, with all possible facilities and equipment.
The archipelago consists of seven major islands: Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife, La Palma, Gomera and Hierro. In addition, a number of small islands: Alegranza, Graciosa, Montaña Clara, Roque del Este, Roque del Oeste and Lobos. The islands are distinctly different and unique, due to their volcanic origin, with several million year age difference.
WWW.SAILINGTRIPS.DK is arranging sea voyages, with skipper, in interesting sailing areas in the Atlantic, Mediterranean and Caribbean.
Their geographical location generally offers good winds for sailing. The Trade Winds, that brought Columbus to America, are creating a funnel effect between the islands, known as Wind Acceleration Zones. This means that even with fairly light prevailing winds, we can still find enough wind for an excellent sail in these zones. There’s plenty of sea life and several of the areas we are sailing through are designated Special Area of Conservation by the Whale and Dolphin Conservation Society.
